When does Birr Air Display take place?

Bank Holiday Monday August 5th

Gates open at 11am

Family Fun Day is 11am till 6pm

Midland Model Flying Club start displaying at 12.30pm

Approximate Air Display Start/Finish time is 2pm – 5.30pm

Organisers are advising spectators to arrive early for a stress-free journey to Birr.

Do I need a ticket?

Yes, Tickets are priced at €15 each for General Admission  Kids 12 and under are FREE

Grandstand tickets are priced at €40 each. Includes Grandstand seat and complimentary BBQ and refreshments

Can I buy tickets on the day?

Yes tickets may be purchased on the day at the gate. However there is only a limited number of grandstand tickets. If you wish to sit in the grandstand, we would advise that you purchase them in advance on our website

Where do I park?

Parking is free and fully supervised on site. You will have to walk no more than a few minutes to the display line and stalls.

Are Kids Free?

All children 12 and Under are free.

What is the schedule / lineup for the Birr Air Display?

The air display running order or timings are not released in advance as they are subject to change. Please see our line up section on www.birrairdisplay.com for who we have displaying. Running orders will be published in our official programme but are subject to change without notification.

Why do some aircraft disappear from the Birr Air Display lineup?

There are a number of reasons an aircraft may have to cancel its appearance at the Birr Air Display which is outside the control of the Event Organiser.

Is there food outlets at the show?

Yes, we have a wide range of variety within our Food Village, or you can treat yourself and the family to a meal at famous The Thatch bar and Restaurant located in Crinkill Village half a mile from the airfield or one of the many restaurants throughout the town or simply bring your own picnic. There are two Hotels located in Birr if you wish to stay Doolys Hotel and the County Arms Hotel. There are many fine B&B’s located close to the event

Can I bring my own seat?

Yes, you can bring your own seat, blankets or cushions.

Is there ATM facilities?

There are no ATM’s on site there are a number of ATM’s close by

  1. Bank of Ireland, Emmet Square, Birr
  2. AIB Bank, Johns Mall, Birr
  3. Applegreen service station, Railway Road, Birr

Are there toilet facilities onsite?

Yes there are toilet facilities situated around the air show site.

Is the event dependent on weather?

Aircraft line-up, all ground events and activities are subject to change without notice and may be dependent on weather.

Is there an official souvenir brochure?

Yes, there is an official souvenir brochure and it will be on sale on the ground throughout the day only. Price of the programme is €5.

Can you hear live air traffic audio at the Birr Air Display?

If you have an air-band radio you can hear the pilots & ATC on 122.95 MHz.

What's the best way to get to the Birr Air Display?

Birr airfield is located 1 mile south of Birr Town on the Roscrea Rd.

Plan your journey on www.transportforireland.ie.

Will there be traffic restriction in place in Birr to facilitate the Birr Air Display?

We expect their will be delays at peak times in both Birr and Roscrea directions. Gardai will be on hand to move traffic as quickly as possible. Please leave ample time for your Journey to Birr.

PLEASE DO NOT ATTEMPT TO PARK ILLEGALLY – IN LOCAL ESTATES OR OUTSIDE LOCAL RESIDENCES.

YOU ARE NOT PERMITTED TO LEAVE YOUR CAR PARKED OVERNIGHT.

Can you use a BBQ at the Birr Air Display?

Unfortunately, BBQ’s are strictly prohibited and cannot be used at the Birr Air Display. If you breach this rule you may be asked to leave the event.

Can I bring a tent or awning?

Due to safety concerns for all spectators, personal tents or awnings are not allowed throughout the event site. Personal hand-held or beach umbrellas are allowed.

Where can I stay, dine and socialise in Birr?

There are also lots of fabulous places to stay, eat, drink, relax and shop in Birr. You can treat yourself and the family to a meal at famous The Thatch bar and Restaurant located in Crinkill Village half a mile from the airfield or one of the many restaurants throughout the town or simply bring your own picnic. There are two Hotels located in Birr if you wish to stay Doolys Hotel and the County Arms Hotel. There are many fine B&B’s located close to the event.

Are there any campsites in Birr?

Unfortunately, there are no campsites in Birr. Please note: Sleeping is not permitted in any vehicles in the car parks. We do not permit camping, camper vans or caravans on site.

Are there First aid facilities at the Birr Air Display?

Yes there are First aid facilities at the Birr Air Display and are manned by trained Red Cross personnel.

Can you use a Remote Controlled Aircraft / Drone / UAV at the Birr Air Display?

The use of remote control devices and unmanned aircraft systems (which includes drones) are not permitted at the Birr Air Display.

There is a Temporary Restricted Airspace notice in place to protect Birr Air Display participants and spectators, for the duration of the event August 5th  Only approved aircraft will be permitted to operate within the TRA for the duration of the event

Will there be noise disruption?

Some of the vintage aircraft taking part are less noisy than the high-speed jets. Our advice is to come prepared as unfortunately, the roar of the jets is unavoidable, it is part and parcel of the Birr Air Display.

Some children wear ear protection, some do not. It is completely up to you.

Are pets welcome at the Birr Air Display?

If you have any pets sensitive to loud noise, then please think twice before bringing them to the event.

Some of the vintage aircraft taking part are less noisy than the high-speed aircraft but the roar of the jets is unavoidable, it is part and parcel of the Birr Air Display. This may make your pet distressed and perhaps increase their fears so it may be best to leave them at home. All dogs must be on leads.

Guide dogs are very welcome at Birr Air Display but please take note of the above.

How do I get Press/Media Credentials?

Media credentials will only be extended to media on assignment. Media Credentials requests must be submitted in advance of Birr Air Display date.

Accessibility at the Birr Air Display

We want to ensure our disabled and special needs access visitors have a fantastic time at the event. Please find below our FAQ section which you may find helpful.

Is there parking for disabled persons at the Birr Air Display?

Yes, there is free parking for disabled persons at all Birr Air Display car parks.

The spaces are limited and cannot be reserved.

On entry to the site You must have a valid European Parking Card prominently displayed in a visible position to avail of the FREE disabled parking.

We would also advise people travelling by car to arrive early and expect delays before and after the event.

I am unable to leave my car due to disability, is there a dedicated location where I can park and view the display?

Unfortunately, some of your view may be impeded of the display from our Disabled parking area.

Is the Birr Air Display location and funfair accessible for special needs visitors?

Yes, for the most part we have flat level ground. Please bear in mind that Birr Airfield is a grass filed site with some hardcore areas and you may need assistance to get through some areas of the site. Disability access toilets are on site.

Please note: There are some areas on the site that are not wheelchair accessible.

Are there wheelchair accessible toilets?

There will be wheelchair accessible toilets on site.

Are guide dogs welcome at Birr Air Display?

Yes, guide dogs are very welcome at Birr Air Display.

As you are aware pets are sensitive to loud noise. Please note: the high-speed jets performing at the Birr Air Display make a considerable amount of noise.

Will there be diabetic facilities at Birr Air Display?

We have one fixed medical post on site. If you need privacy to use insulin, please call into our medical team where privacy will be provided.
